Security issues to affect trade, Narendra Modi warned China

Mr Modi himself talked tough with the Chinese during Brics summit

New Delhi: National Security Adviser A.K. Doval, a key member of PM Narendra Modi’s delegation, was present at a crucial meeting between India and China on the sidelines of the Brics summit that lasted for about 80 minutes, double the time allocated for it.

Sources claim that Mr Modi himself talked tough with the Chinese during the meeting, realising fully well that with bilateral trade between the two countries standing at $65.47 billion in 2013, China would have to take note of India’s demands.

The PM, sources said, clearly told Mr Xi that it was imperative for China to understand that major differences on the security front can have a direct impact on the economic ties between the two countries.

At a time when China is looking forward to doing enhanced business with the Modi government on the economic front, India feels Beijing will surely look into the issues raised during the meeting.
