M Venkaiah Naidu for big role for women in public life

‘Swaraj’ means ensuring good governance and integrated development: Mr Naidu

Hyderabad: Union minister for urban development M. Venkaiah Naidu stressed the need for greater participation of women in public life and administration.

Empowerment of women is necessary and cases like Delhi gang rape and the rape of the six-year-old in Bengaluru are scars for our country.

According to him, ‘Swaraj’ means ensuring both good governance and integrated development.

Mr Venkaiah Naidu was here on Monday to inaugurate the “Mid-Career Training Programme”, (MCTP) building, at Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy, in Shivrampalli.

He interacted with the participants of Level 5 Mid-Career Training Programme, faculty and staff of the Academy. The programme is meant for the IPS officers of 25 years and above in seniority, who will be going to assume the top most level of leadership in police department. The building has classrooms and other facilities for various purposes including syndicate discussions.

Appreciating the work of Aruna M. Bahuguna, director SVPNPA, he said women should be encouraged in public life and administration.

“Even till date we discuss whether women are capable enough to take up certain jobs, but even in ‘puranas’ women like Sarawathi, Lakshmi and Parvathi took up responsibilities of Education, Finance and Defence,” said Mr Venkaiah Naidu.

He appreciated the vital role of the Academy in the training and development of IPC officers. He said that the Academy was a shining example of training standards in our country. He assured the Academy that the Government of India will take all necessary steps to implement the recommendations of parliamentary committee to further enhance the effectiveness of National Police Academy. He will convince the Union Home Minister about it.

“If there is tension in the border, there will be no attention in the country on development. We need to be relieved of tension,” he added. He also expressed concern about Cross Border Terrorism, Fundamentalism and Left Wing extremism in the country. He opined that the security forces need to upgrade modern techniques and undergo training to fight the terrorists and anti-social elements.

He said Human Rights are for human beings and not for ‘Raakshashas’ and they don’t deserve it.
