Divide in BJP over Vaidik probe

The RSS is rallying behind Mr Vaidik and called him a nationalist

New Delhi: A debate is raging within the BJP on whether to order a probe into the controversial meeting between 26/11 terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed and Baba Ramdev’s close aide Ved Pratap Vaidik in Lahore recently.

While some BJP leaders feel the government should order an inquiry as it is a “serious matter”, others are against “dragging the issue, since the government has already distanced itself from the meeting”.

The Centre has so far shown no inclination to order any investigation yet.

External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, who has sought a report from the Indian high commission in Pakistan on the matter, has “condemned” Mr Vaidik’s meeting with Saeed.

It is speculated that Mr Vaidik could not have met Saeed without the clearance of the Pakistan Army and its powerful Inter-Services Intelligence.

The RSS, appears to be rallying behind Mr Vaidik.

A day after RSS ideologue M.G. Vaidya said he felt there was “nothing wrong” in Mr Vaidik meeting the terror mastermind, another RSS leader Indresh Kumar said on Wednesday that Mr Vaidik was a “nationalist”.
