Badaun rape: CBI likely to exhume bodies of victims on July 20

The board of three-forensic experts has recommended that fresh autopsy

New Delhi: The medical board looking into the alleged rape and murder of two girls in Badaun in Uttar Pradesh, has recommended that bodies must be exhumed for fresh autopsy which is likely to take place on Sunday.

The sources said the board of three-forensic experts has recommended that fresh autopsy was needed before forming any opinion which will necessitate exhumation of bodies.

Following the recommendation, CBI will move the appropriate authority, which could be District Magistrate or the concerned court, for seeking their permission to exhume the bodies and proceed with fresh postmortem.

"Tentatively, the exhumation may take place on July 20 subject to approval from appropriate authorities," CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said.

CBI sources said there was no need to take consent of the family members and only permission required is from the local authorities.

Concerns were raised by locals that level of Ganga river, which flows adjacent to the grave of the minors, is rising because of heavy rains in Uttarakhand and might inundate it but the agency said every aspect is being considered before taking any action.

The move comes after the autopsy report of the state government was only suggestive of rape without conclusively proving it.

Highly-placed sources in the agency said the first post-mortem was conducted at night, which is usually against laid down procedures. Post-mortem is not conducted after sunset except in an exceptional emergency cases.
