Medical Council of India suspends affiliation for three self-aided Medical Colleges

But, MCI okayed request by 5 medical colleges to start MBBS course adding 450 seats

Thiruvananthapuram: The Medical Council of India on Tuesday withdrew the affiliation for three private self-financing colleges and rejected applications by four new self-financing medical colleges to start MBBS courses, citing infrastructure deficiencies, leaving the State poorer by a total 700 new seats.

Colleges de-affiliated are Kannur Medical College, Ancharakandi, Gokulam Medical College, Venjaramoodu, and Malabar Medical College, Kozhikode.
But the MCI okayed the request by five medical colleges to start the MBBS course, which adds another 450 seats to the State medical sector.

In a related development, five private self-financing colleges on Tuesday evening inked an agreement with the State Government to surrender 50 percent seats to the Government quota. This adds another 250 seats, taking the total seats in the Government quota to 1,300.

The MCI has also approved raising Kozhikode medical college seats from 200 to 250.
