Cauvery panel tells Tamil Nadu to move to the Supreme Court

TN had filed an application for taking up the pending petition filed by the state under Section 5(3)

New Delhi: Meeting for the first time in seven years, the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal on Tuesday asked Tamil Nadu to approach the Supreme Court for appropriate directions while dismissing its petition seeking clarification on its 2007 final award allocating quantum of water to the member states.

While disposing of the “explanation and guidance” petition filed by Tamil Nadu, the tribunal said that it cannot decide on a matter which is pending before the SC. Lawyers representing Karnataka also contended that the petition filed by Tamil Nadu was flawed as the SC is hearing a bunch of petitions regarding the final award given by the tribunal.

Tamil Nadu had filed an application for taking up the pending petition filed by the state under Section 5(3) of the Interstate River Water Disputes Act, 1956.
