Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif rewards 100 top taxpayers

The taxpayers will be given several benefits throughout the year
Islamabad: In a bid to promote tax compliance culture in Pakistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today felicitated 100 top taxpayers by awarding them 'Privilege Cards' that will allow them to avail some special services.
The cards will be valid for one year and give several benefits to the holders, according to a statement issued by PM
office.
100 taxpayers will be recognised each year.
"(The card holders will have) access to VIP lounges at airports, fast track clearance at immigration counters, issuance of gratis passports and a baggage allowance enhanced from USD 500 to USD 5000," it said.
"I am addressing to people who have contributed more to the taxes and played a prominent role in revitalising the economy of Pakistan for the last one year. The ceremony has been convened to acknowledge your services for the nation," said Sharif.
He said there has been an increase of three per cent in the total number of taxpayers in the country, while the fiscal deficit has declined to four per cent.
Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister, said if every single Pakistani pays his or her tax, the economy would be strengthened. He mentioned that notices were issued to 120,000 individuals for not filing tax returns.
Sharif also hailed the rise in Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves to USD 14 billion and hope that it will touch USD 15 billion mark, as promised by Dar in the next few months.
