Telangana government has granted Rs 2,79,30,000 to Shias across state

Hyderabad: Responding to a story published in DC about Shias being neglected by Wakf authorities, while granting funds for spiritual activities, the Telangana government has granted Rs 2,79,30,000 in keeping with a GO issued by the principal secretary of the minority welfare department, Mr Janab Ahmed Nadeem, to Shias across the state.

As per rules governing the grant every district will receive Rs 30 lakh for religious activities. In Hyderabad alone around 15 places have been identified and a representation has been sent to the Wakf Board.

"The ground work has already been done. The welfare department had called for a list of shrines. In a day or two the amount will be sent to collectors from where it will handed over to local commissioners and institutions,” said Abdul Hameed, CEO, Wakf Board.

“This is probably the first time that the welfare department has granted the amount,” said Hamed Hussain Jaffery, President, AP Shia Youth Conference. and a GO issued, that too in the month of Ramzan. Earlier, some Chief Ministers talked about allotting funds but that happened only for big Masjids that are under the government. It is good that finally something has been done for our community immediately after the matter was raised," said Hamed Hussain Jaffery, President, AP Shia Youth Conference.
