New system to put an end to ATM robbery

The system was developed, after closely studying the modus operandi of looters

Coimbatore: City-based Sinta Systems has launched a system, which, it said, alerts bank personnel, police and the public besides trapping the culprit, who enters an ATM kiosk to break open the machine and take money.

The system was developed, after closely studying the modus operandi of looters, who were merely bothered about the security system, because they break open the ATM by damaging the CCTV camera and close the shutter, so they were not noticed at any point of time, putting pressure on bankers as well as police to track the culprit, D Radhakrishnan, Managing Director, Sinta Systems, told reporters here.

Demonstrating the functioning of the system, he said GSM Modem installed in the room sends information as SMS to the bank personnel and police control room within seconds and a vibration sensor activates the alarm to alert the pubic around the area.

Besides, it sends the signal to run the automatic motor that closes the magnetic door followed by the closure of the shutter thereby trapping the looter, he said. The cost of the device is Rs 1.50 lakh, Radhakrishnan said.

Launching the system, Martin Chezian, Deputy General Manager, Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank, Coimbatore Region, said incidents of thefts in ATMs across India were increasing and it would be beneficial for bankers and help minimise thefts.
