Assam Chief Minister, Health Minister lock horns

Mr Gogoi threatened to stage protest in front of Congress high command

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were engaged in a diatribe on Twitter on Sunday. The war of words on Twitter started with Mr Sarma’s tweet that said, “Assam GDP growth between 2005-6 to 2012-13 is only 5.8 which is lowest amongst all states. National GDP average is 8. Time to work hard.”

Mr Sarma in his next tweet said, “We could not spend even 50 per cent of the 2013 plan allocation. Central grant, including NLCPR is under-utilised. Time for introspection and improvement.” The remarks of Mr Sarma were more significant in view of the ongoing dissident activities in the party.

Mr Sarma is alleged to have been leading the group of legislators pressing for the change of state leadership. Tech-savvy Mr Sarma has been using his social media site pro-actively but, of late, he has been targeting the functioning of his own state government.

Mr Gogoi, who on Friday took a minister of his cabinet, Siddiqui Ahmed, head on for threatening to stage protest in front of Congress high command, on Sunday.
