Prof. Kancha Illaiah asks Telangana to Reimburse school fee

TRS promised free KG-to-PG education in its manifesto

Hyderabad: Eminent scholar and vice-president of the Centre for So-cial Justice Prof. Kancha Illai-ah demanded that the TRS go-vernment reimburse the fees of the children admitted to pr-ivate schools expecting the KG-to-PG scheme to be functional. He said fees of at least students from the backward classes, SC, ST and minority should be borne by the government. He also chided the TRS for calling a bandh des-pite being the ruling party and called the TJAC “anti-people”.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, Prof. Illaiah said thousands of parents had admitted their children in private English medium schools this year after the TRS promised free KG-to-PG education in its manifesto.

Prof. Illaiah suggested that the government start reimbursing parents from the SC/ST sub-plan itself.

“There are unused funds in the special component plan budget from which the fees can be reimbursed,” he said.

He also suggested that the government open kindergartens in rural areas as well. “The education system of Telangana should be different from that of Andhra Pradesh. We should do away with coaching centres altogether, and admissions should only be based on class 12 marks.”

Prof. Illaiah was very critical of the TRS and the TJAC giving bandh calls. “Don’t give bandh calls being in the government. What is the use of these bandhs? The TJAC has lost its mind. It has now become anti-people,” he said.
