Waiver to be linked with Aadhaar to filter bogus farmers

Government to ask banks to collect Aadhaar cards from farmers, who have arrears

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government is toying with the idea of linking waiver of farm loans to Aadhaar cards. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Friday held a meeting with the P. Kotaiah committee appointed by the government to look into waiver of farm loans. And, it was resolved that there are many ‘bogus’ farmers who got loans in the name of agriculture.

To weed these bogus farmers, the state government is mulling to link waiver to Aadhaar cards. If the banks link waiver to Aadhaar cards, bogus farmers can be easily identified and real farmers will get the waiver benefit.

Following the meeting, the government has decided to ask the banks to collect Aadhaar cards from farmers, who have arrears.

Later, CM asked Andhra Bank chairman C.V.R. Rajendran not to give notices to farmers asking them to pay arrears.
