Jaitley takes 5-minute break while presenting the Budget in the Lok Sabha

Jaitley is diabetic and was suffering from severe back-ache while reading the budget

New Delhi: It was perhaps for the first time in the history of Independent India that a finance minister took a break to complete his Budget speech in Lok Sabha, as incumbent Arun Jaitley felt uncomfortable while reading out his speech and requested Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to give him five-minute break and also allow him to read rest of the budget sitting at his place.

As Mr Jaitley, who is 61-year-old, looked uncomfortable due to a cramp in his back after he spoke for about 45 minutes, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and home minister Rajnath Singh, suggested him to seek permission for a break.

While permitting the minister to take rest the Speaker adjourned the House for five minutes at 11.45 am.
