Andhra Pradesh wants to go solo in EAMCET counselling

AP government does not want to wait until October to begin admissions for courses

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government wants to conduct Eamcet counselling for engineering and medical on its own.

It has sought the opinion of the State Council for Higher Education, which conducts the counselling in the two states, if it can go ahead on its own in view of the Telangana government seeking time till October.

However, the Council has told the AP government that there will be several problems if each state conducts its own counselling, as education will remain common for ten years.

The Telangana government on Saturday said that it will file an appeal in the Supreme Court to extend the deadline for completing the admission process by end of October citing insufficient number of bureaucrats to work out the modalities of the fee reimbursement scheme.

However, the AP government doesn’t want to wait until October and wants to begin counselling on its own.

AP health minister Kamineni Srinivas even said counselling will start as early as possible.

On the engineering front, the AP government has sought the opinion of the SCHE.

“Education will be common for ten years and counselling and admissions should be conducted commonly. SCHE is also in the 10th Schedule common to both states. We have informed the AP government that several problems will arise if one state goes ahead with counselling on its own,” an SCHE official said.
