Afghan man caught trying to smuggle gold in underwear

The passenger concealed five gold biscuits in his underwear and the soles of shoes

Hyderabad: Customs officials intercepted an Afghan national early on Tuesday morning and foiled a smuggling attempt at the RGI airport, Shamshabad. The passenger, who had arrived from Jeddah, had concealed five gold biscuits in his underwear and the soles of his shoes. Customs officials recovered 700-gm gold from him.

Though the passenger had walked through a metal detector, the gold was not detected initially. “The passenger was wearing four pairs of underwear and the gold biscuits were concealed inside them. The metal detector could not detect the metal initially. However, we stopped him and conducted a thorough check. Three biscuits were found inside his underwear and two were found from his shoes,” said a customs official.
