223 kg narcotics seized in Hyderabad

Seized Ephedrine is commonly known as herbal fuel, chi powder, herbal ecstasy or zest

Hyderabad: The Special Operation Team of Cyberabad and Narcotics Control Bureau busted a drug racket by arresting seven people, some of them pharmacists, and recovered a large quantity of a banned narcotic substance on Tuesday.

The officials raided three godowns at Hayathnagar and found 223 kilos of ephedrine worth crores. Ephedrine is commonly used as a stimulant. It was banned in India due to its dangerous side effects. However, the drug is still widely abused in the country. Ephedrine is commonly known as herbal fuel, chi powder, herbal ecstasy or zest, and its over-consumption can lead to palpitations, vomiting, insomnia, and heart attack, officials said.

The gang members are from Hyderabad, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. The gang had been exporting drugs mainly to Chennai. The cops are still trying to find out which foreign countries the drugs were exported to. A senior police officer said the gang manufactured the drugs in Hayathnagar, under the pretext of running a pharmaceutical company called Sai Priya.
