Prabhu Praveen Kumar is set for a jamboree

Prabhu, is getting ready to represent India at the Colombo Centenary International Jamboree

Prabhu Praveen Kumar, popularly known as ‘Tyson’, is getting ready to represent India at the Colombo Centenary International Jamboree to be held at Sri Lanka next month.

About 3,500 participants from 39 countries, including India, are expected to take part in the event. Tyson is evidently excited about his first International World Scout event.

The 22-year-old resident of Secunderabad says: “It will be a different platform to explore my potential. I have high hopes.”

Tyson is currently pursing a diploma in electronics from ITI (Industrial Training Institute) and on Sundays, he scouts for almost six hours.

He has participated in several district and state-level activities and has also represented South Central Railways in many national level jamborees.

So, what motivated him to join the Scouts?

Tyson says, “In 2003, my school didn’t have scouting. I used to live at the Railway Colony and my friends studied at railway schools, where scouting was an active subject. Every Friday students wore Scout uniforms and they told me about the activities they did like training, playing games, camps etc. Since I was inclined towards sports, my uncle, Late P.K. Raju, helped me to explore my potential.

He was a president awardee and a Scout quota appointee in Railways. He took me to K. Ramesh Chander who trained me.”

Tyson is now striving hard, every day, towards his ultimate goal to receive a Rashtrapati Award from the President of India, which is the biggest award for scouting in the country.
