Congress leaders furious at Telgu Desam seeking name change

TD leaders demand to rename Srikakulam after TD leader K. Yerrannaidu

Visakhapatnam: The latest demand of TD leaders to rename Srikakulam after TD leader K. Yerrannaidu has invited the wrath of Congress leaders who have been demanding to rename the district after Boddepalli Rajagopala Rao, who was a five-time MP from the district.

In Vizag, some groups have been demanding to rename the district after legendary freedom fighter Alluri Sita Rama Raju. Recently, there was also a demand in Vijayawada to rename Krishna district after NTR, who was born in Nimmakuru in the district. In 2012, a group of Alluri Sita Rama Raju’s followers embarked on a fast unto death in June at the district collectorate demanding to rename the district after the freedom fighter. However, they withdrew after receiving assurance from a local all-party delegation of raising the issue in Hyderabad.

“Alluri Sita Rama Raju was a rebel during his times. He inspired many tribals in Vizag Agency and made them revolt against British rule. He deserves a lot. And ours is a just and justified demand to rename Vizag after the legendary freedom fighter,” said Mr Alluri Satyanrayana Raju, nephew of the freedom fighter. “Very soon we are all going to chalk out an action plan to take the movement forward,” said senior CPI leader J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy.
