Hyderabad: Amid high drama and protests, TRS MLC and former TNGOs leader Swami Goud, who led the famed “Sakala Janula Samme,” was elected Chairman of the first Telangana Legislative Council here on Wednesday.
Mr Swami Goud, 60, hailing from the backward Goud community, was elected Council Chairman “unanimously” as the Congress withdrew its nominee, Mr Farooq Hussain, in the midst of the election and Telugu Desam members walked out in protest against what they termed as post haste conduct of polls through secret ballot instead of open ballot.
In all, 21 MLCs cast their votes, all, including Mr Vidyasagar, in favour of Mr Swami Goud.
Following this Mr Vidyasagar declared Mr Swami Goud as elected.
