The goodness of Turmeric: As effective as 14 drugs?

A new study says Turmeric is as effective as other conventional medications

Mumbai: Most of us know how good Turmeric is for our health. Its medicinal properties and components have made it one of the most thoroughly researched plants in existence today.

And now, a study in The Mind Unleashed has combined previous studies on Turmeric together to come to the conclusion that this yellow powder is as effective for your health as a lot of other conventional medications, including:

Lipitor/Atorvastatin(cholesterol medication): A 2008 study found out that Turmeric works wonders on endothelial dysfunction as well as reduces inflammation and oxidative stress in type 2 diabetic patients.

Corticosteroids (steroid medications): A 1999 study says that the primary polyphenol found in Turmeric compared favourably to steroids in the management of chronic anterior uveitis, an inflammatory eye disease.

Prozac/Fluoxetine & Imipramine (antidepressants): A 2011 study concluded that curcumin in Turmeric helped in reducing depressive behaviour when tested on animals.

Aspirin (blood thinner): Another 1986 study discovered that the same curcumin component found in Turmeric has anti-platelet and prostacyclin modulating effects compared to aspirin, indicating it may have help patients prone to vascular thrombosis and those requiring anti-arthritis therapy.

Anti-inflammatory Drugs: A 2004 study found out that Turmeric is also an effective alternatives to drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen, sulindac, phenylbutazone, naproxen and many more in exerting anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative activity against tumor cells.

Oxaliplatin (chemotherapy drug): A 2007 shows how curcumin compares favourably with oxaliplatin as an antiproliferative agenet in colorectal cell lines.

Metformin (diabetes drug): A 2009 study explored how curcumin might be valuable in treating diabetes very effectively.

Tumeric has also revealed its therapeutic properties while researching on drug resistant- and multi-drug resistant cancers.

Taking into account Turmeric's strong relevance in both, food as well as medicine, one can safely say that this plant is science as well as nature's most precious gift to mankind.
