Engineering no such great attraction in kerala

Out of the 28,604 candidates only 15,657 have paid the fees

Thiruvananthapuram: The demand for engineering admissions seems to be fading going by the trend in the first phase of allotment to professional courses in the state. Out of the 28,604 candidates who got allotment, only 15,657 have paid the fees till Tuesday in the first phase of allotment to professional courses.

Following this, the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) has extended the last date till July 8 for remittance of fees in any designated branch of State Bank of Travancore by candidates who have got allotment to courses other than MBBS/BDS.

However, MBBS and BDS courses still have a lot of takers as most applicants have already got admitted.

Earlier, the last date for paying the fees for those allotted seats to professional courses was Thursday. Those who do not pay the fees within the stipulated time will lose their allotment and higher options. Such students will not be considered for further online allotments for the existing courses in colleges.

The allotment was based on 18,49,064 options filed by a total of 53,687 candidates. Last year, nearly 80,000 seats remained vacant in engineering colleges in the state.
