G Karthikeyan may quit after session

CM Oommen Chandy plans to accommodate him in cabinet while undertaking reshuffle

Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker G. Karthikeyan is likely to resign after the Assembly session ends on July 17 as chief minister Oommen Chandy plans to accommodate him in the cabinet while undertaking a reshuffle.

According to sources, Mr Karthikeyan was keen to put in his papers even earlier but was asked to wait till the Assembly session was over. It may be recalled that Mr Chandy had wanted GK to be appointed as the PCC chief following the resignation of Mr Ramesh Chennithala, but the AICC chose Mr V.M. Sudheeran instead.

Mr Chandy had planned to shuffle his cabinet immediately after the Lok Sabha election results were announced on May 16, but the move was stalled due to the debacle suffered by the Congress at the national level.
