PSLV rocket lifts off from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh carrying five foreign satellites to space

Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed Sunday’s launch of the PSLV-C23 rocket carrying five satellites: French earth-observation Spot-7 satellite, Aisat from Germany, NLS7-1 and NLS7-2 from Canada, and Velox-1 of Singapore.

The Prime Minister flew in by helicopter from Chennai. Hours later, Mr Modi tweeted, “Will be in Sriharikota this evening & tomorrow morning for launch of PSLV-C23. Will meet scientists during my visit. Looking forward.”
In another tweet a few minutes later, he said, “Our Government is committed to give further impetus to our Space Programme.” Mr Modi was accompanied by Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and minister of state for Space Jitendra Singh.

Mr Modi had a busy night, speaking with scientists and visiting different establishments at the spaceport. Later, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made a PowerPoint presentation on issues facing the state to the Prime Minister. Mr Naidu will witness the rocket launch along with Mr Modi

Meanwhile, all systems were go for the launch of the PSLV, the workhorse of the Indian space programme.

A thunderstorm over Sriharikota will not have any bearing on the launch of the rocket. Shar director M.Y.S. Prasad told Deccan Chronicle, said that the countdown has a two-hour cushion built into it. The storm could last only an hour.
