Hyderabadi Saina Nehwal now has her first Super Series title in two years and besides clinching that $750,000 prize, on Twitter, on Sunday, Nehwal was the star! The shuttler was trending all day long on the social network, despite that nail-biting finish by Brazil at the Fifa World Cup and a bunch of other cat videos.
The tweets began almost seconds after her win over Spain’s Carolina Marin in Sydney. Actor Amitabh Bachchan was one of the first to fire off: “Saina Nehwal WINS ..!! Australian Open... Congratulations !! HINDUSTAN ZINDABAD !!”
Congratulatory tweets soon followed from AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Telangana IT minister, K.T. Rama Rao, fellow Hyderabadi Dia Mirza, Kabir Bedi, Rahul Bose, Pragyan Ojha, the BJP as a whole, half a dozen directors, actresses and others.
And Hyderabadis were thrilled with the way their Sunday had turned out. “Saina Nehwal has put Hyderabad on the world map again. Social media- wise, it’s great to see Hyderabad and this part of the country trending online for good reasons, finally! Because for sometime now, our state has only been buzzing on Twitter because of political fallouts and debates.
