We will demand Bharat Ratna for P V Narasimha Rao: CM KCR

New district, varsity will be named after PV, says KCR

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday said his government will construct a memorial in the city for former Prime Minister late P.V. Narasimha Rao.

It will showcase his life, literature, speeches and other important details connected with the late legend.

Mr Rao said his Cabinet would soon pass a resolution requesting the Centre to confer Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of the country, on Narasimha Rao.

Mr Rao along with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and a host of leaders paid floral tributes to the son of the soil as the Telangana government celebrated Narasimha Rao’s 93rd birth anniversary as a state function for the first time on PV Gnana Bhoomi at Necklace road.

The CM also announced that one of the newly-created districts in Telangana will be named after Narasimha Rao. A new university will also be named after him.

Mr Rao also announced installing a statue of Narasimha Rao at an important junction in the city rather than on Tank Bund. “If the statue is set up on the Tank Bund, it will become just one more among the several statues already existing there. We want to set up his statue at a special and important location,” Mr Rao said, while addressing the gathering.

Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy, a host of ministers, MPs, MLAs, Jnanpeeth awardee C. Narayana Reddy and leaders of various parties offered floral tributes to Narasimha Rao.

The Governor, Mr Narasimhan, described the former Prime Minister as a perfect human being and a man with great ideals. “A leader like P.V. is very rare on the Indian political map. He was a modern Chanakya, a multi-faceted personality and a man with his feet firmly on the ground. He was the father of economic reforms in the country. A man who rose from a small position to the highest office in the country. We have to always remember that,” he said.

“PV ji had a great sense of humour. He would come up with classic statements with a wealth of meaning in them. He is not a man or name to be forgotten,” Mr Narasimhan added.

The Governor asked the Telangana government to create an herbal garden at the PV. Gnana Bhoomi as he loved and believed in Ayurveda.
