Police recovered gold ornaments weighing 2.13 kg

Hyderabad: The city police on Thursday arrested two notorious chain-snatchers who are allegedly involved in 73 snatching cases. The police also recovered gold ornaments weighing 2.13 kg which were snatched by the duo from different areas in the city.

The accused Shaik Saleem, 23, from Babanagar, and Syed Abdul Majeed, 20, from Gulzar House used to target lone women pedestrians in Cyberabad and Hyderabad.

“The duo use high speed bikes. They used to approach victims from both the front as well as the back. The rider slows down while approaching the victim, the pillion rider snatches the ornaments, and the duo flees immediately,” said police commissioner Mahender Reddy. The police also arrested three persons, Mir Sajjad Ali, Sagar Kaka and Abdul Rahman the three receivers who used to buy gold from the two.

Police officials said the duo was arrested at least five times in previous cases. However, they used to come out on bail.

Officials said the duo met at the Cherlapally jail in 2012 and planned to team up. The two were booked in 57 cases by the Hyderabad police, while the Cyberabad police booked 16 cases against them.
