Officials don’t know how to deal with illegal construction menace

There are hundreds of structures constructed on disputed and government lands

Hyderabad: The civic authorities are clueless on how to tackle those constructing illegal buildings. Illegal fresh constructions apart, there are hundreds of structures constructed on disputed and government lands. Those violating civic rules latter approach the court and get stay orders.

The GHMC has no idea what action should be taken on a total of 140 acres of land in Ayyappa Society that has 1,215 plots. As many as 565 illegal buildings have come up. “When all the buildings are illegal, either the government should pull down all or they need to regularise all constructions. Instead, there is a drive only for under-construction buildings,” a builder stated.

The Ayyappa Society was formed in 1982 when the Gurukul Ghatkesar Trust sold 140 acres of its 627 acres of land to some bureaucrats, taking permission from the Kondapur Panchayat. While it was a legal deal then, problems started when the Trust sold land to politicians and film stars without registrations.
