Karunanidhi, Vijayakant condole famous Tamil director Ramanarayan's death

Tamil Nadu: Tamil film director and producer Ramanarayanan, who is popular for making films featuring animal characters, passed away on Sunday at a private hospital in Singapore.

DMK president M Karunanidhi and DMDK leader Vijayakant today condoled the death of veteran Tamil cinema director Ramanarayanan, saying his demise was a loss to Tamil film world. Karunanidhi recalled that Narayanan had served as DMK MLA of Karaikudi and said he was a popular producer, director and story writer.

He had recently discussed his kidney ailment with him, Karunanidhi said, adding, his death was however unexpected. "He cannot be forgotten," Karunanidhi said in a statement and expressed his sympathies with the family of the deceased. Vijayakant, an actor himself, recalled that he had featured more than 10 films directed by the veteran director and described him as an affable person. He had directed films in many languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Marathi, Vijayakant said, adding, his demise was "an irreparable loss" to both Indian and Tamil cinema.

Ramanarayanan holds the world record of directing over 125 films, the maximum number by a director.

Beginning his career as a dialogue-writer in Tamil film industry, Ramanarayanan has given several hits. Some of them include 'Kanne Radha', 'Soorakottai Singakutty', 'Veeran' and 'Sahadevan Mahadevan'.

'Arya Surya' is his 125th film. He also headed the Tamil Film Producers Council for three consecutive terms. He has also received many awards including the state "Kalaimamani" award.
