Rivalry out in the open?

This year, Mahesh Babu and Ram Charan’s movies have flown too close to each at the BO

Hyderabad: Normally, no two producers like their films to clash at the box office. But the forthcoming films of superstars Mahesh Babu and Ram Charan are set for release within weeks of each other, setting the stage for an interesting clash. Tollywood is eagerly waiting to watch the tamasha.

As soon as the makers of the Mahesh Babu film Aagadu announced the release date of the film as September 19, the producer of Ram Charan’s Govindudu Andari Vadele announced that his film would be released on October 1.

Is there some sort of rivalry between the stars’ camps?

Because this is not the first time. Earlier this year, films of Mahesh Babu and Ram Charan, 1 and Yevadu respectively clashed during Sankranti. While Charan’s Yevadu was supposed to be released in December 2013, it was brought forward to Sankranti, around the same time as Mahesh Babu’s 1. Ironically Charan’s film Yevadu was a hit, while 1 tanked.

Rumour is that Yevadu’s producer Dil Raju had announced the December release last October. But because of Allu Aravind’s pressure, he postponed the film to the auspicious Sankranti.
Ironically, both the films were telecast on the same day at the same time, on different TV channels last week.

Now the two forthcoming films are releasing within a few days of each other and the makers are confident this time that Mahesh Babu will not be the loser.

Srinu Vaitla is directing Mahesh Babu, while Krishna Vamsi is directing Charan. “1 was an experiment. Now, Srinu Vaitla is a safe filmmaker and it’s a typical entertainer and the producers are confident of the product,” says a close source. The shooting of the film is going on at a brisk pace and is almost complete.

Meanwhile a few scenes of Charan’s film will be re-shot with Prakash Raj, as he replaced another actor in the film. Amid this competition, the fans stand to gain the most with the films of two superstars releasing back to back.
