No, the iPhone is not the most expensive smartphone you have come across. Vertu, a British manufacturer of luxury phones is well-known in making high-profile fashion phones made from gold, silver, platinum, titanium and diamonds. Vertu phones aren’t affordable and definitely not for every hand. Vertu has recently unveiled an Android smartphone for a whopping price of approximately $11,300, which converts to over Rs 7 lakh.

The Vertu Signature Touch is not a simple smartphone. It is heavily tweaked from various angles and incorporates unique features for the final build. It features a titanium body (forged grade 5) and luxurious calf leather covered rear panel. It is an Android-based smartphone which sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset featuring a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The display is a 4.7-inch full HD 1080p screen protected with a sapphire glass.

The rear camera has a 13MP sensor with dual-LED flash, which is tuned by Hasselbald, a photography expert company, while the front features a 2.1MP camera. The smartphone’s audio has also been taken care of. The audio of the Vertu Signature Touch is enhanced by Bang & Olufsen.

The internal antenna has an advanced design too. A seamless titanium-chamfered rail is claimed to allow for a crisp and warm feel and boost the connectivity performance of the antenna. The external chassis is designed in titanium and with leather on the sides for a comfortable grip. The bottom end of the phone is named the ‘Diving Nose’, which is designed to comfortably in your hand as well as slip in smoothly into your pocket or bag. Lastly, the power button is made from hand-polished ruby.

Networking options include Wi-Fi a/b/g/n dual-band, Bluetooth v4.0, Micro USB, USB OTG, NFC, GPS and GLONASS. The phone is powered using a 2275 mAh battery, which has a talk time of 15 hours and a standby time of 380 hours. The SIM card is a micro SIM (GSM, single SIM). The Vertu Signature Touch is 10.7mm thick and weighs in at 192g.

The Vertu Signature Touch will be launched soon and will be available in select stores all over the world. The estimated expected price is around Rs 7 to Rs 8 Lakh. The device will be launched in the first week of July and available off the shelves in India too.
