Telangana government in touch with the Centre to rescue people stranded in Iraq

Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahamood Ali on Monday said the state government was in touch with the Centre to rescue people of Telangana who were stranded in Iraq.

He said Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao and chief secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma had spoken to the ministry of external affairs and the Indian Mission in Baghdad and enquired about the safety of Telangana people.

Mr Ali said as per preliminary reports, about 600 people from Telangana were stranded in Iraq and all efforts were being made to bring them home safe.

“Mr Chandrasekhar Rao has been speaking to officials of the MEA and the Indian Mission in Baghdad and enquiring about the safety of Telangana people. He directed us to take all measures for their safe return. He instructed us to spend any amount for the purpose and asked the finance department to release funds on a priority basis,” Mr Ali said.

He said two helplines — 009647704444899 and 009647704843247 — had been set up in Baghdad for the assistance of Telangana people and those who needed help.
