Secunderabad Cantonment Board collects record property tax

SCB has launched campaign against non-payment of tax and warned of property attachment

Hyderabad: The SCB has recovered a record property tax of around Rs 3 crore from defaulters in April-May 2014. The defaulters came forward after the SCB tax department launched a campaign against non-payment of tax and warned of property attachment. Last year the SCB collected a record amount of Rs 17.41 crore after a crackdown on tax defaulters. Property owners at Bowenpally, Maredpally and Balamrai were served notices to pay their long due taxes but they did not respond at first.

However, when Board officials started campaigning through public address systems about the attachment of movable and immovable assets of defaulters, property owners came forward to make payments. "Over 95 per cent of property owners have paid their taxes. The defaulters made payments through cheques as well as demand draft. We will continue the drive till the entire tax is recovered," said an official of the tax department.
