K Chandrasekhar Rao to meet Prime Minister over Polavaram ordinance

Leaders across party lines backed Telangana government's stand on Polavaram issue

Hyderabad: Leaders cutting across party lines backed the Telangana government's stand on the Polavaram issue and assured the government to stand by it.

“I will take a delegation to the Prime Minister at the earliest. The ordinance should be stopped. We will also present all the resolutions of the Assembly and Council to the Prime Minister for necessary action,” Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said.

When Telugu Desam member A. Revanth Reddy questioned the government as to why it did not fight on the issue in Parliament when the AP Reorganisation Bill was taken up, irrigation and legislative affairs minister T. Harish Rao said the Telangana Rashtra Samiti has been fighting against Polavaram project in its present design and sought change in the design.

“We have launched an agitation, called for bandh and raised the issue in Parliament. Our duty is to protect the interests of the state. You have to spell your stand clearly whether you are for the ordinance or not. Are you for Telangana and Girijans?” Mr Harish Rao asked.

He added, “Looks like the TD is against supporting the resolution opposing the ordinance.”

TD MLA Veeraiah, BJP MLA Ramachandra Reddy, YSR Congress MLA Venkateshwarulu, CPM MLA Sunnam Rajaiah and others backed the resolution and urged the CM to take an all-party delegation to the PM to stop the ordinance.
