Pay hike lies in two Chief Minister’s court

Due to financial crisis gov employee pay hike is not going anywhere

Hyderabad: Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Friday referred the report of 10th Pay Revision Commission to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments. The PRC headed by P.K. Agarwal had submitted its report to the Governor in last month, before bifurcation.

The committee was constituted by the earlier government led by the then Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy last year. Government employees in both the states will get revised pay scales with considerable hike, if this report is implemented.

While the employees’ associations demanded an hike of 45 per cent over basic pay, the committee is learnt to have recommended an hike of nearly 34 per cent. The Chief ministers of both the states have to take a final decision on the amount of the hike in their respective states.

However, the hike is expected to pose a severe financial threat to both the cash-strapped governments due to limited financial resources on account of bifurcation of state. It will be more difficult for Andhra Pradesh government which started off with a deficit budget of nearly Rs 20,000 crore though situation is somewhat better for Telangana government with a surplus budget of nearly Rs 7,000 crore.
