Beas tragedy: Upendra Tallada used to help his pals

One of the class toppers, Upendra used to help out his friends with their studies

Hyderabad: Upendra Tallada was focused on his studies. Earlier, when he joined the EIE batch of VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute directly in the second year, he did not have many friends. In a few weeks, other students were stunned by his academic abilities. They started approaching him with doubts whenever they failed to understand chapters. Upendra would clear their doubts in minutes.

On the terrible Sunday, in the Beas River in Himachal Pradesh, Upendra faced swirling waters which washed him away along with others. Four days after the search rescue workers fished out his body on Thursday. One of the class toppers, Upendra, was quite approachable when it came to academics. “He was a brilliant student. Whenever, we had any doubt we used to go to him,” said Murali Krishna, his friend.

Unlike other students in his batch Upendra joined directly into the second year after completing polytechnic. “He joined after we finished a year in college. So it took time to know more about him,” said Krishna. Upendra, who is a native of Paloncha of Khammam, was staying in a hostel near the college along some other friends. “He was well focused. He would never waste time. He always tried to mastering the syllabus,” said another friend.

Upendra’s parents had dreamt of their son becoming an engineer when he said he wanted to join a good engineering college after three years in Polytechnic. But fate had other plans. Upendra’s body would be reaching his home on Friday.
