Skill India, the new mantra for Narendra Modi

Prime Minister said he would like to be guided by seniors even from the Opposition

New Delhi: Asking the Lok Sabha members to “forget the bitterness of the past”, PM Narendra Modi said, “We have to work together for the development of the country.” Expressing his sense of humility in victory, he said, “Vijay bahoot kuchch sikhati hai aur unmein namrata sabse upar hai (Victory teaches us many lessons, humility above all).” He also said he welcomed criticism so that his government can be “saved from becoming arrogant”. Offering a new ma-ntra, Mr Modi said, “Our image has become ‘Scam India’, and we have to convert it to ‘Skill India’.”

“I don’t want to move forward without you (Opposition). I don’t have to move forward on the basis of numbers, but on the basis of collective decision making,” Mr Modi said in his reply to the debate on the motion of thanks to the President for his address in both Houses. After his reply, the motion was adopted unanimously.

Mr Modi said that he would like to be guided by seniors even from the Opposition, asking them to “forgive” any wrong words that he may have used.

Taking a dig at Mall-ikarjun Kharge, who invoked the Mahabharata to remind the BJP that like Pandavas, the Congress too would come back to power, Mr Modi said, “As the Mahabharata was mentioned yesterday, I am reminded of Duryodhana, who said he knew dharma and truth, but did not have the inclination to follow that. Likewise, Congress also knew what was the right thing to do, but they did not do it. We will do it.”
