Parliamentarians ignore Speaker Sumitra Mahajan's advise not to disrupt Parliament

Shiv Sena MP's statement infuriated Congress and other political parties

New Delhi: Even though Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Tuesday advised senior members of the house to desist from disrupting the proceeding the Lok Sabha witnessed uproarious scene when Shiv Sena MP Pratap Rao Jadhav said that late Bal Thackeray’s saying that once saffron flag would flutter on Lal Quila has come true.

This infuriated members of the Congress, the Trinamul, the Left, the RJD and the AAP, who trooped to the Well asking the chair to remove the comment from record. Mr Jadhav was speaking on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address to Parliament. Arjun Charan Sethi, who was in the Chair, assured the members that he would examine the record and remove if there was anything objectionable.

However, the assurance failed to pacify the agitating members leading to adjournment of the House for a brief time.

“This is not the way. So many new members have come and some have returned after a few years. Please speak when you are given the chance. Such interruptions are not correct,” Ms Mahajan said while addressing the House on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address to the Parliament which was initiated by BJP member Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
