Four-wheeler shortage in Andhra Pradesh police

Shortage of around 1,069 four-wheelers for the AP police will affect patrolling, law enforcement

Hyderabad: The AP police has cried foul over the division of vehicles and buildings stating that there was a discrepancy in the division formula.

The AP police, with 13 districts has got only 3,408 four-wheelers as Hyderabad and Cyberabad are excluded from Telangana in the division.

Officials said that there is a shortage of around 1,069 four-wheelers for the AP police which will adversely affect patrolling in the proposed AP capital and other cities and rural districts.

J. Srinivasa Rao, AP Police Officers’ Association alleged, “There are around 10,000 vehicles in the state. They are supposed to be divided in 58:42 ratio, according to which AP is to get 4,450 vehicles. However, they excluded Hyderabad and Cyberabad from Telangana stating they are territorial areas. Due to this we got only 3,408 four-wheelers,” adding that, “Buying a four-wheeler involves a long procedure in the government.”

The association also raised objections over division of buildings.

“The Crime Investigation Department and intelligence buildings have been constructed with common funds. If the AP government and police move out of Hyderabad, the Telangana government will take over these buildings. Then the AP government will have to be compensated for it,” he said.
