An intense love story from Jeeva Shankar

The film features Arya’s brother, Sathya, whose debut movie sank without a trace

Chennai: Jeeva Shankar, a former assistant of late director Jeeva, is returning after his earlier hit film, Naan, with an intense love story, titled Amara Kaaviyam, which is being produced by actor Arya under his home banner, Show People. The film features Arya’s brother, Sathya, whose debut movie sank without a trace and Mollywood’s Mia in the lead. So, was Arya re-launching his bro?

“More than my brother, it was the awesome script that made me give my nod. Incidentally, Shankar suggested that Sathya would be apt for the role,” Arya said.

It’s learnt that he cried after watching the climax. “I watched the rough cut without even a proper rerecording. The movie has an emotional and touching climax. There are no dialogues for the entire 15 minutes and both Sathya and Mia have to emote through expressions. It is not mushy melodrama, but you feel the pain. I came out totally choked,” the Madarasapattinam star explains.

We ask Jeeva Shankar how different Sathya was from Arya since he has known the latter ever since his debut film, Ullam Ketkume.

“When I cast Sathya in the film, many dissuaded me, saying that he would throw tantrums and would not be able to emote. Some said he was not as good looking as Arya. But for me, my character is the hero and I needed an actor who would suit what I had conceived. Beyond that, anything can be adjusted technically. Sathya fitted the role and has done a wonderful job.”

He lauds Arya as a producer, never coming to the sets even for a day. The film, which is set in 1988-89 has been shot mostly in Ooty and is gearing up for a July release.
