Sonia Gandhi made him the the deputy leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha

New Delhi: Former Punjab chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, who defeated Arun Jaitley in the general election, could be the main player of the Congress to take on the Narendra Modi government in the Lok Sabha.

CPP chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday made him the deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha. She has also appointed young leader Jyotiraditya Scindia as chief whip of the party in the Lower House.

“Capt. Amarinder Singh is a fighter and will be effective in the Opposition benches while Jyotiraditya Scindia is an articulate leader and will be aggressive on the floor,” viewed party insiders.

Mrs Gandhi has already nominated a Mallikarjun Kharge as the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha.
