Telugu Desam denies it will end YSR’s schemes

It was earlier reported that the schemes are a burden to the exchequer

Hyderabad: Telugu Desam media committee chairman L.V.S.R.K. Prasad on Wednesday denied that the Naidu government would shelve the Arogyasri, fee reimbursement and free power schemes. Responding to a report in these columns, Mr Prasad said that the article was baseless.

It appears that some TD leaders who insisted that the schemes which the party had criticised when in the Opposition in undivided AP would be scrapped did not meet the party line.

It is learnt that in informal discussions with TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, some leaders had suggested that instead of continuing these schemes, it would be better to develop alternatives. A senior officer, who is close to Mr Naidu, also suggested the same to him.

Regarding the fee reimbursement scheme, Mr Naidu is said to be thinking of working out an alternative to help the poor students.

Free power for agriculture is not as important in AP, where agriculture is mainly dependent on river water, as it is in Telangana which depends on borewells. The scheme won’t be a burden on the government, and it need not spend huge amounts like in the united state.
