Uttar Pradesh rape case: You do your job, I'll do mine, Mulayam snubs media

Akhilesh Yadav had blamed media for ‘unfair’ coverage of the Badaun incident

Lucknow: Even after being at the epicentre of controversy for their skewed perception of rising rapes in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his chief minister son, Akhilesh have not resisted in defending themselves.

While the latter has blamed media for unnecessarily highlighting the case, his father on Wednesday tried to shut up reporters who grilled him over the case and the law and order situation in the state saying “You do your work, I’ll do mine”.

Meanwhile, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday asked a petitioner to produce the copies of post-mortem reports and FIR filed by the families of victims of the Badaun gangrape and murder case by June 9.

A division bench comprising Justice Imtiyaz Murtaza and Justice Shashi Kant passed the order on a PIL filed by and NGO.

The court also asked the UP government to produce the written order of recommendation of CBI inquiry into the incident on the same date.

The petitioner argued before the court that the state government was not serious about taking action in this incident.

Meanwhile, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav blamed the media for “unfair” coverage of the Badaun incident. In an informal chat with reporters, he said,

“Such incidents are happening everywhere and even more in other states but the media keeps showing UP all the time. Statistics about crime in other states is available on Google but it is UP alone that is highlighted. Similar incidents taking place in Bengaluru and MP are not shown by the media,” Akhilesh Yadav had said.

Uttar Pradesh Governor B L Joshi met Union home minister Rajnath Singh and discussed various issues, including prevailing law and order and political situation, in the state.
