Southwest monsoon to hit Rayalaseema by June 8

Conditions are becoming favourable for further advancement of the monsoon

Hyderabad: The Southwest monsoon is expected to hit Rayalaseema on the midnight of June 7 or early on June 8 morning. Met officials said the conditions are becoming favourable for further advancement of the monsoon into some parts of Southeast Arabian Sea, remaining parts of the Maldives-Comorin area, some parts of Tamil Nadu and parts of Bay of Bengal over the next 48 hours.

“An upper air cyclonic circulation over Odisha and neighborhood, extending up to 0.9 km above mean sea level, persisted on Sunday and the trough extended from Odisha to South Tamil Nadu across South Chhattisgarh, Telangana and interior Karnataka,” an official statement from the IMD said.

“With the conditions also being favourable in the Bay of Bengal, the monsoon currents might advance into the South Coastal Andhra region by June 5 or 6,” said K. Seetharam, the director of Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad.
