In Malappuram alone there are more than 40,000 students studying in open schools

Kozhikode: The Indian Union Muslim League working committee has decided to put pressure on the State Government to sanction more higher secondary schools highlighting the acute shortage of plus two seats.
When the League is making a hue and cry about this issue that was once shot down by the Government, the fact remains that hundreds of higher secondary school seats were left unfilled last year.
If the Government succumbs to the demand of the IUML and sanctions more schools, higher secondary schools would also face the fate of high schools which are fighting to save their divisions.
Meanwhile, IUML general secretary K.P.A.Majeed said news about vacant seats was not true and there were several students studying in open schools due to seat shortage.
“In Malappuram alone there are more than 40,000 students studying in open schools. How can this be justified? If students from other districts get a chance to study for free, then why should that privilege be denied to poor students from Malappuram or Kozhikode? There is seat shortage in schools in areas from Ernakulam to Kasaragod. Seats are vacant in unaided schools in the South,” K.P.A. Majeed said.
Due to lack of facilities, Government schools in these districts were not in a position to accommodate additional batches, he said.
