New Delhi: The first session of the 16th Lok Sabha, which saw the BJP coming back to power with a simple majority on its own, will meet on Wednesday primarily for the swearing-in of new members, election of the new Speaker and the customary President’s address.
As the session begins under a pall of gloom due to the death of Union rural development minister Gopinath Munde, pro-tem speaker Kamal Nath will adjourn the House for the day on Wednesday after leading the House in paying a two-minute silence for the departed.
Parliamentary affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said that the swearing-in ceremony of Mr Nath as pro-tem speaker will go ahead as planned on Wednesday morning after which the Congress leader will conduct the proceedings of the House.
“On June 5, the proceedings will start with the swearing-in of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shri Advaniji, Union council of ministers and rest of the MPs state-wise as is the convention. The proceedings will go on till late in the evening on Thursday and till Friday afternoon,” Mr Naidu told reporters.
The minister said that the election for a new Speaker will be held on Friday afternoon and the Parliament will go for a recess to meet again on Monday.
