Madhuri learns new moves for Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa

Madhuri wants to learn western dance styles as surprise for her fans

Mumbai: The stunning Madhuri Dixit is back as judge on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa with Karan Johar and Remo D’souza — but in a new avatar.

The actress has been given a new look by celebrity stylist Anaita Adajania Shroff and will be seen in more western outfits, rather than the saris and other ethnic wear that she sported in previous seasons of the show.

Madhuri says, “The outfits will be formal but not over the top. Last season I wore Indian outfits and brighter colours. This year I have muted colours and pastels.”

At the launch of the show, Madhuri had also shared that she has been trying to learn a few western dance styles as a surprise for her fans.

She admitted that it was quite challenging: “Western dance is a challenge for me. I haven’t done lifts in my career and doing them isn’t easy, but I’m not scared of falling and hurting myself. I’m adventurous by nature."

"I’m learning the salsa, tango, flamenco and other dance forms. But I’m also adding my own touch to them so you will still get to see the adaa and expressions. I also want to learn tap dance but haven’t found a good instructor.”

Madhuri added that this season, the focus will be more on western dances for the contestants as well and she has been involved in the process of finalising the acts. She says, “The team sat together and we planned how to make the look more western."

"The audiences will get to see the contestants perform styles such as Bolero and Bachata, which have never been performed on the Jhalak stage. A lot of them are uncomfortable with these dance styles but as they progress in the show, their skills will develop. Practice is important and once you understand the style, the dancer becomes the dance.”

When asked if the actress is also open to doing fiction shows on TV, Madhuri says, “If I am approached for one and I like it, I will take it up.”
