Oliver Stone to direct film on whistleblower Edward Snowden

The thriller will focus on experiences of Snowden who leaked thousands of documents

Oscar-winning filmaker Oliver Stone, best known for his real-life inspired political thrillers like JFK, Nixon and W, is now all set to tackle the film on American whistleblower Edward Snowden. Stone and his producing partner Moritz Borman have acquired the movie rights to The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man, written by journalist Luke Harding, based on his reports about Snowden in the Guardian newspaper.

The thriller will focus on the experiences of Snowden, a contractor at the National Security Agency who leaked thousands of classified documents to the former Guardian columnist Glenn Greenwald back in June 2013. Harding and other Guardian journalists will serve as production and story consultants, reported the British newspaper. “This is one of the greatest stories of our time. A real challenge. I’m glad to have the Guardian working with us,” the 67-year-old filmmaker, who has also made documentaries on political figures like Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez, said in a statement.
