Telangana: What will change and what won't?

Matters related to the central government remain unchanged

Hyderabad: As the new state is born on Monday, some things will change while others will remain as they are.

The Changes:

Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) will change. Traders in Telangana will use the prefix 36 and those in residuary Andhra will use 37. TIN is required for payment of commercial taxes.

Labels and boards will change mentioning Telangana — from government offices to labels on certain products. Government of Telangana will replace Government of Andhra Pradesh in the 10 districts of Telangana.

Secretariat’s Blocks A, B, C and D will house the Telangana government while H, J, K and L will house the Andhra government.

Labels on liquor bottles will change. Bottle sold in Telangana will have pink labels.

Vehicle registration numbers will change with the state code and district code changing. While movement of vehicles across the border will become interstate movement, the status of new vehicle registrations in Telangana is not clear currently as there is also a demand for the “TS” series for Telangana.

This is yet to be approved by the Centre although a proposal has been sent. For at least 10 days, no new registrations will take place in Telangana although vehicle owners’ demand for Telangana numbers is huge. Notification from the Centre on district RTO codes is yet to be received.

The Constants:

Calling rates between the two states are expected to remain the same since the Telecom circle will still be one, at least, until another spectrum auction takes place. STD codes will also remain the same since no change is obviously required.

Postal codes will not change for the same reason as STD codes.

Aadhaar cards will not change due to the bifurcation.

No changes will be required in passports as well as they are issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Anything related to the Central government will not change.
