In full bloom this summer season

Delicate floral details to bold, flamboyant prints, this summer is all about floral fashion

Hyderabad: The summer floral parade is here! Okay, this may not classify as an avantegarde moment in fashion, but let’s admit it, there’s simply no resisting the floral temptation in any Spring/Summer calendar. Pretty much everyone, right from Nina Ricci, Armani, Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors to Dolce & Gabbana, Erdem and Givency are taking a walk down the garden.

Designer Pooja Sabharwal finds the idea eternally romantic, “Fashion’s ongoing love affair with floral prints continues in the summer of 2014. Since feminine and floral make a strong alliance, women have no reasons to complain.”

Endorsing the global mood, the designer says, “This season, florals come in soft pastel colours and vibrant hues, all of which are variations of the garden theme. The prints can be delicate, or bold and bright. But the key is to play it differently. Over-sized floral motifs, that even include 3D designs, are trending big. And particularly loved are the daisy flowers the 1970s era favourites are back in business. Remember it’s fun to give all the classics a fresh update. You can also go the minimal way by having flowers only on necklines, hemlines, borders, sleeves and waistline.”

Feel free to explore this all-time favourite trend but stay away from the run of the mill course, mentions designer Ritika Bharwani on this season’s floral show. She says, “Experimenting with new patterns is a smart way to escape the monotony. Florals with bold graphic motifs made the right noises at the London Fashion Week and they are still going strong. Designers have combined two big trends this season, floral and art inspiration. This has resulted in exquisite and highly imaginative patterns.”

“Mismatched floral prints are another popular way to sport this trend where a clash of floral prints is used in the same outfit. Not to miss out, appliquéd floral is this season’s most stunning detail. Simple and no fuss silhouettes work the best for this kind of embellishment. Another fun way to flaunt this look is by wearing brush-stroke printed florals. Sheer panels, lightweight and flowy fabrics are best for the blossoms,” she adds.

Whereas, designer Mayyur Girotra has set his sight on sunflowers. “I was looking for a break from those tiny flowers. That’s when sunflowers came into the picture. They are prominent and such a visual delight. My S/S ’14 line has a bunch of sunflowers scattered on skirts, while the tops flaunt a single stem,” he informs.

Mayyur lays out more options and adds, “If you are bored with pastels, try bright and dark tones. Floral prints on crop tops, jumpsuits and short dresses are hot this season. And of course, you can never go wrong with a floral maxi.”
