Simone Singh likes to stay away from limelight

Simone Singh was away from television for long only to return in a pivotal role

Mumbai: Simone Singh was away from television for long only to return in a pivotal role. She plays the elegant but shrewd Sakshi Goenka in Ek Haseena Thi, which is fast climbing the popularity charts. Simone, however, is still best remembered for her portrayal as Heena, way back in the ’90s. “Yes, people still refer to me as Heena and I think I have been fortunate. In today’s times people forget a character once the show has ended but people still remember that role.”

Simone admits that she makes it a point to stay away from the limelight, so that not much is revealed about her personal life. “I like it that way,” says the actress. She adds, “When I’m not working, I like to stay at home as much as possible. I’m more of a home person but I also enjoy travelling with my husband.” Speaking of her show, a lot has been said about what has gone into zeroing in on Simone’s regal look. “Sapna Malhotra is doing my costumes for the show and I give my suggestions too. My look is vintage and classic — it is apt for the character. Sakshi is an industrialist and enjoys dressing well. So that factor has to come across.”

So, what attracted Simone towards this role? “I was excited about this show since the moment Siddharth Malhotra (creative director) narrated the script to me. Mine is an author-backed role. The best part is that Sakshi is unlike any role that I have played in the past.” Considering Ek Haseena Thi, unlike most daily soaps on TV, is a thriller, one wonders if Simone thought it would be a risky move. She says, “In fact that is what I liked. It is different from other shows and is a fast paced-edgy thriller. I’m glad to be acting with co-actors like Vatsal Seth, Sanjeeda Shaikh and others.”
